Feb. 15 Global Gender Partnership Circle

Women and men in global partnership for the empowerment of women

Women Waging Peace
Convener: Bonita Banducci
Speakers: Yael Deckelbaum, Hamutal Gouri and Riman Barakat

Israeli singer-songwriter and activist Yael Deckelbaum will be joining her fellow Women Waging Peace leaders Hamutal Gouri, and Riman Barakat (if she is able to attend), in exploring with Bonita the role of gender competencies in a women-led movement for peace between the Israeli and Palestinian people.

Bonita:

Hamutal and Yael have requested a special session to explore and understand the framework I have created for understanding and working with gender differences as differences in “competencies.” This is the framework I am presenting in the NGO CSW Parallel Events to the UN Women meetings in March in New York.

Primary focus will be on working with Hamutal, Yael and Riman (if she can join us from Israel) with a session at the end for those of you who have questions or something to contribute.

Please join us for a conversation about women’s leadership waging peace in the Middle East!

Women Waging Peace
Convener: Bonita Banducci
Speakers: Hamutal Gouri and Riman Barakat

Women Waging Peace leaders Hamutal Gouri and Riman Barakat are scheduled to share their experience of launching and leading this extraordinary movement for peace between Israeli and Palestinian people in challenging circumstances and times.

Bonita:

Here’s a recording of their conversation for J Street, the organization here in the US supporting a two state solution.

I think you will be inspired!

This will also be wonderful opportunity to also share the experience of those of us who are participating in marches in the United States (and some places internationally) Jan 21 supporting progressive causes that are not supported by the new US presidency.

Women and men in global partnership for the empowerment of women

Conveners: Bonita Banducci & Aryae Coopersmith

Women’s Leadership After the U.S. Election

  • How does the recent U.S. Presidential election demonstrate issues, challenges and contribution of women’s leadership — and the partnership of men and women — around the world?
  • What have we learned?
  • What’s next?

This monthly circle grew out of an OWL Global Wisdom Circle on Feb. 14, 2016: How Changing Roles of Women are Changing the World, where Bonita was first speaker. Both Usman Mohammed Inuwa in Nigeria and Offuh James Offuh in Ivory Coast felt that Bonita’s work would be very relevant to their work as peacemakers in African nations. Bonita brought them together two social activists for women’s empowerment: Dr. Grace Waumue-Ngare, and Trish Sewe, in Kenya.

The four of them and Bonita decided to meet monthly, and to open the circle like-minded women and men around the world!

Please join us for a conversation about women’s leadership at this historical moment!

September 26 Global Gender Partnership Circle

Women and men in global partnership for the empowerment of women

Convener: Bonita Banducci

This monthly circle grew out of an OWL Global Wisdom Circle earlier this year: How Changing Roles of Women are Changing the World, where Bonita was first speaker. Both Usman Mohammed Inuwa in Nigeria and Offuh James Offuh in Ivory Coast felt that Bonita’s work would be very relevant to their work as peacemakers in African nations. Bonita brought them, and two women who are social activists in Kenya, (as well as Aryae and Len & Libby Traibman) together for a video conference on April 25 (with Aryae and Len & Libby Traibman also present).

Dr. Grace Wamue-Ngare

Offuh James Offuh

Trish Sewe

The African peace makers decided that it would be very supportive of their work for this circle to meet monthly, and to open the conversation — about men and women in global partnership for the empowerment of women — to like-minded people anywhere who would like to join!

Bonita:

Grace Mose Okong’o and Grace Wamue-Ngare will be sharing their work in Kenya, empowering women for a New Kenya, with

Hope Foundation for African Women
Kenyatta University, Kenya – Institute of Women, Gender and Development

(If the Internet does not allow connection with Nairobi, I am inviting Gideon and Celine Ticha, from Cameroon living in Atlanta, to share their work in Cameroon.)

Hope Foundation for African Women (HFAW) has produced high impacts in two county communities in Kenya, with “critical conscious raising,” igniting women and men to find and implement solutions to problems in their communities, using the EPES Foundation model for training for health and human rights and KivaZip for economic development. The Women Leaders for the World breakthrough project is to have HFAW program, training for Health and Human Rights and KivaZip, in all 47 counties of Kenya, in 5 years.

The Hope Foundation for African Women (HFAW) model incorporates Educatión Popular en Salud (EPES) Foundation training, from Chile, and KIVAZip, providing interest-free micro loans, to model for communities worldwide, tools to invigorate democratic engagement and leadership, and empower women and the men who work along with them for health-focused sustainable development.

Additionally, Grace and Grace are committed to a New Kenya, taking on ending the practice of rural women selling their votes, to turn to electing government officials that are honest and represent their constituencies. They are both preparing to bring leadership training to their university to provide a foundation of integrity, authenticity, and a commitment to something greater than yourself, and being at cause in the matter.
